A Kindred Mind

We met only once, in Albuquerque for the "Anderson-Shultz Wedding" and I greatly regret that I have only those few hours to remember him by. I can recall only brief, polite conversations, and his silent, sharp-eyed observation of people and events around him that day. (We could have exchanged so many stories and have had a lengthy ongoing dialogue about Science and Spirit, Sousaphone-playing, Tickling the Dragon and "Kids Today".) Even from such limited contact, however, I know that here was a man of substance and depths that few who knew him a lifetime might experience fully. Much about his character is, happily and plainly, visible in his daughter and grandchildren. This helps me respect and admire the qualities he passed on. I rejoice that their loss of him can be balanced with their pride and joy in sharing his legacy---especially that of good and decent minds. David Miles Burkett
